What's new in 9.35

Contents

Version 9.35 adds a new chord display option for capo players, a faster way to build setlists, a visual storage browser, MIDI that keeps working in the background and a lyrics view for your audience.

Capo Dual Chords

When a song has a capo set, JustChords can now show both chords: the shape you fret and the chord that actually sounds. The second chord is shown in parentheses and in a secondary color.

Smarter Add to Setlist

The Add to Setlist screen is now a single step:

  • Create New Setlist directly in the list – enter title, image and notes and the songs are added right away.
  • Pick an existing setlist as before.
  • New Sort button with its own sort setting, so a long list of setlists is easy to scan.
  • The Import screen uses the same picker, so imported songs can be added to an existing setlist, not only to a new one.
  • Import duplicate handling is simplified to one toggle: Overwrite existing songs.

Visual Storage Browser

In Storage, the folders Backgrounds, Images and Notesheets now show thumbnail grids instead of a list of file names. Tap a thumbnail to preview it; the preview shows the title of the song or setlist the file belongs to.

MIDI in the Background

New switch Receive MIDI in Background keeps JustChords responding to MIDI while another app is in front – for example Jump to Song from a pedal or from a host app such as Loopy Pro.

  • Where: Settings → MIDI (visible when MIDI is enabled)
  • Default is off, because it uses extra battery while enabled, even when no MIDI is being sent.
  • Chord Beats Sync set to MIDI Clock now also keeps following the external clock in the background, including when the clock starts after you've switched to another app.

Dark Mode ABC Notation

ABC notation can now be adapted to Dark Mode: with Dark ABC notation on (default) it is drawn to match the dark theme. Turn it off to show the notation on a crisp white backdrop. A white PDF note sheet now also switches the page and floating menu to light appearance, so there is no mismatched dark background.

  • Where: Settings → Appearance → Dark ABC notation (visible when Dark Mode is on)

Sing Along

While running a PlayTogether session as leader you can share the song lyrics with a web audience. Switch on Sing Along in Leader Mode and show the generated QR code or 6-character code. People open the link in a browser – no app needed – and see the lyrics with the current section highlighted, similar to Apple Music lyrics. Chords are never sent.

More improvements

  • PlayTogether: followers now highlight the currently played chord, not just scroll with the leader.
  • Song Viewer – section label width: new Label width option (Dynamic, Medium, Small) for Leading left/right label positions.
  • Trigger: new Start metronome when song appears.
  • Chord Beats: chords can be placed on half beats (e.g. 2.5).
  • Song Editor: Tags and Song Structure are tucked under the Artist row (tap the chevron) and Song Structure can be edited inline.
  • Shared setlists opened from a link now import as a synced setlist.
