JustChords keeps your library (songs, setlists, tags, your own chords and MIDI messages) in one data file, plus images, backgrounds and sheet music next to it. With iCloud it is shared between your devices (see ICloud Sync). This page explains how to look at what is stored, clean it up and bring back an earlier state.
Storage overview
Open Main menu → Storage.
- Folders – browse the stored files. Backgrounds, Images and Notesheets are shown as thumbnail grids; tap a thumbnail for a preview that also shows which song or setlist the file belongs to.
- Linked / Unlinked – a file is linked when a song or setlist still uses it. Unlinked files are no longer used and can be deleted to free space. Select files and choose Delete N Files; JustChords asks for confirmation because it cannot be undone.
- Temporary files – the sheet music cache (PDF + ABC), media gallery thumbnails and other generated files. They can be safely deleted with Delete temporary files and are recreated automatically when needed.
Backup
Open the folder icon at the top of the sidebar and choose Backup / Restore (see Getting started with JustChords).
Automatic backup
Set Automatic backup to Disabled, Daily, Weekly or Monthly. JustChords shows the date of the last backup and you can press Backup now at any time.
Backup to file
Backup to file saves your library as a JSON file you can keep in Files, AirDrop or e-mail to yourself.
Restore
Restoring always asks for confirmation, because the current data is overwritten.
- Restore from automatic backup – pick one of the stored backups. Recent ones are grouped (for example < 7 days).
- Restore from previous version – pick an earlier version of the data file kept by iCloud. Each entry shows the device that modified it, when, and how many songs and setlists it contains; the active one is marked Current.
- Restore from file – choose a backup file and select which parts to bring in: Songs, Setlists, Chord Library and MIDI Library.
- Reset Library data – removes the library data. Use only if you want to start over (make a backup first).
Songs you delete by mistake can usually be brought back without a restore: see Recently Deleted.
